Emanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre (EIICC): A World-Class Venue for Imolites and the Nation

On September 30, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu — flanked by state officials — inaugurated the newly built Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre (EIICC), in Owerri: a milestone in Imo’s ambition to host national and international events.

REBIRTH OF A LANDMARK

The convention centre, commissioned as a legacy project of Uzodimma’s administration, replaces a dilapidated structure — positioning Imo for a fresh start in hospitality, events, culture, and business gatherings. According to reports, the EIICC is the iconic edifice the governor referenced among completed projects.

Inside, the EIICC boasts modern halls, banquet-style arenas and meeting rooms — designed to host events ranging from governmental and corporate conferences, to cultural festivals, weddings, seminars, and large-scale social functions. The capacity and versatility mark it as one of the most ambitious public-works investments in recent years.

WHY EIICC MATTERS FOR IMO

  • Elevates Imo’s national/international profile — with a world-class conference facility, Imo can now attract seminars, national conferences, corporate retreats, cultural events, and more. This draws visitors, investment, and attention to the state.
  • Boost to hospitality & ancillary sectors — hotels, restaurants, transport services, local craftsmen and suppliers stand to benefit from increased events traffic, generating jobs and economic activity in Owerri and beyond.
  • Venue for governance, civic and social discourse — state government, NGOs, community organisations, and civil society now have a modern platform to convene assemblies, town-hall meetings, trainings, and forums.
  • Civic pride & identity — for Imolites, EIICC becomes a symbol of rebirth and progress; a recognition that their state deserves top-class infrastructure and global-standard facilities.

From the elegant halls of EIICC to the streets outside, the mood in Owerri has shifted — there’s renewed optimism that Imo is not just rebuilding roads, but rebuilding community, identity, and opportunity.
